Welcome to C.A.P.U.
A volunteer-run unit in Windhoek rescuing animals from abuse, finding them foster and forever homes, and fighting the cruelty that puts them in danger.
A 100% volunteer rescue network — powered by people who refuse to look away.
The CAPU Rescue Paw Print Wall
CAPU's outstanding veterinary ledger has reached N$ 253,216. Because of this debt, our credit account has been suspended — and we must pay N$ 100,000 immediately to open the doors and keep saving injured and abandoned animals.
So we're building the Rescue Paw Print Wall. We need 206 local heroes to claim their spot. Every visit, your name — or a beloved pet's — will be on display at CAPU House as a permanent lifesaver of our rescues.

Our Mission
C.A.P.U. — the Civilian Animal Protection Unit — was founded in Windhoek in 2021 as a volunteer-run non-profit with a simple purpose: to rescue animals from abuse, to find them foster or permanent homes, and through campaigns to make the public aware of animal abuse, dog fighting and backyard breeding. When a call comes in, whoever is available answers it.
We rescue from abuse and never look the other way.
100% volunteer-run — no one draws a salary.
We feed back to donors on every rescue they support.
What We Do
From the first emergency call to the day they trot off into a new home — we're with them through all of it.
We respond to reports of animals being abused or at risk — pulling them out of danger and into safe hands.
Every rescue needs somewhere to land. We place animals in caring foster homes and match them with permanent families.
Our rescues are treated and patched up through our partner, Rhino Park Veterinary Clinic — funded by the donations you give.
We campaign to make the public aware of animal abuse, dog fighting and backyard breeding — and how to report it.

Ready for a home
Before he was rescued, Bista spent three long years chained up and confined to an old tyre. The neglect never broke his spirit — given a second chance, he bloomed into a joyful, affectionate and deeply loyal companion who absolutely loves life (and his toys).
He's high-energy, playful, and ready to give his whole heart to the family that chooses him. He has an amazing foundation, having worked directly with professional trainer Gavin Damon to help him settle into home life.
Must be the only pet. Because of his past, Bista needs a home with no other dogs or cats — so he can feel entirely safe and be the centre of your world.

CAPU is a registered Voluntary Association run entirely by volunteers. Funds are managed per rescue, and we give feedback to every donor on the animals their gift helped — because trust is everything.
In our own words
“To rescue animals from abuse or possible abuse, to find foster homes or permanent homes for such animals, and through campaigns make the public aware of animal abuse, dog fighting and back-yard breeding.”
